Common questions

What is the most I can lose on a call debit spread?

The most you can lose is the net debit you paid, which is the cost of the call you bought minus the premium from the call you sold, multiplied by 100 shares per contract and by the number of spreads. The most you can make is the distance between the two strikes minus that debit, on the same multiplier. Break-even at expiry is the strike you bought plus the debit per share. Both legs share an expiry, which is what caps the loss and the gain at the same time.

How many shares should I buy for a fixed percentage of risk?

Divide the money you are willing to lose by the distance between your entry and your stop. Risking 1% of a $50,000 account is $500; with an entry at $190 and a stop at $180, the $10 of risk per share allows 50 shares. The stop distance sets the size, not the price of the stock — which is why a wide stop on a cheap share can be a larger risk than a tight stop on an expensive one.

What is IV crush, and when does it hit?

Implied volatility rises into a scheduled event because the option market is pricing in an unknown result, and it collapses the moment the result is known. That collapse is IV crush. It is why a long option bought before earnings can lose money even when the stock moves the way you expected: the directional gain is smaller than the premium lost when the uncertainty disappears. The stock has to clear the move that was already priced in, not merely move.

What do GO, CAUTION and NO-GO mean here?

They are the three labels a weighted score against the configured thresholds for the strategy you chose, shown with a score out of 100 and a coverage percentage saying how much of the checklist had data to run on. Some checks are marked critical and can veto the result on their own. None of it is advice or a prediction — it tells you which of the named checks a position passes, and you can read every check and disagree with any of them.
